Urban Development Project
I contributed to an urban development project aimed at optimizing a public carpark layout, improving traffic flow & safety, and enhancing user experience at a neighborhood mall. The main motivation was to better utilize the available space so that it can accomodate more motorcycles as it was initially designed with insufficient motorcycle lots.
Here are some key highlights:
Key Contributions:
Space Optimization & Traffic Flow • Stakeholder Collaboration • Additional Contributions
Motorcycles were forced to park illegally, sometimes hidden behind a pillar within close proximity of a turning radius of a car negotiating a turn.
A similar situation on the other side of the carpark, with more motorcycles parked illegally, not by choice.
In my communications with the mall management, I highlighted key locations where motorcycles usually have to park at, and why something should be done.
To create my proposals, I had to take measurements of the space. Firstly with my iPhone, but used a measuring tape when I realized it wasn't as accurate as I needed it to be.
Key Contributions:
One of the proposals that I submitted.
Another proposal that ended up being the one that they based the final design on.
The space today.
What was initially one car lot accomodates for 13 motorcycle lots now, increasing the utility of the space by 420%.

This experience allowed me apply my knowledge as a game developer, especially my experience with level design, to solve a real-world problem. I discovered that there's many overlaps not just in the workflow and processes, but also in the interpersonal aspects of achieving the intended results, and the compromises that have to be made.
